Presidential Executive Order Eliminates the Department of Education

Missouri National Education President Phil Murray on President Trump's Executive Order Eliminating the Department of Education

[Jefferson City, MO]—The dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education is devastating news for Missouri’s students. This reckless decision harms our most vulnerable children, redirecting critical education funding to benefit billionaires and CEOs. These cuts will only delay and deny help for students with special needs, meal programs for low-income students, and financial aid for trade school or college-bound students.

Teachers across Missouri see firsthand how these resources change lives, and losing them means larger class sizes, fewer supports, and less individual attention for each student. Our kids get one chance at a quality education, and educators know better than anyone what's at stake if we let politicians rob them of these opportunities.

Missouri educators and school staff will not stand by silently. Together, we’ll fight to protect the resources our students desperately need and deserve. We urge all educators, parents, and communities to unite and make it clear: Our students' futures aren’t negotiable.
