CHEER Grant

Request for Assistance

Caring Help for Education Endeavors by Retirees was formed by Missouri NEA-Retired to be a public service by enhancing the learning conditions of Missouri's children. CHEER provides opportunities for MNEA-Retired members to reach out to public school district employees, particularly early career educators, who are MNEA members, to provide financial and material resources.

Application Criteria:

  1. The applicant must be a current Missouri NEA Active Member. 
  2. The sponsor must be a current Missouri NEA-Retired Member.
  3. The grant application must be complete.
  4. The project description should include specific items to be purchased and/or costs to be incurred to complete the project and the vendor where the items are being purchased.
  5. Applicants may be contacted by the Missouri NEA-Retired CHEER chair if the application is unclear or if more information is required.
  6. As the CHEER committee wants to spread the grants, do not apply if you have received a CHEER grant in the last 3 years.

CHEER Grant Application Process:

  1. Complete the online application (below) or Missouri NEA-Retired Grant Application form (pdf), save and email all pages of the application to cheer.mnear@gmail.com.
  2. Applications must be received by November 1 or March 1 each year to be considered.
  3. Approved applicants and their sponsors will be notified in December or April, depending on which date (November or March) the application is received.
  4. The recipient must submit photos and receipts to cheer.mnear@gmail.com 

Examples of projects that have been approved for CHEER Grants in the past include:

  1. Support Staff Needs
  2. New and Experienced Educator Classroom Setup Needs
  3. School Supplies or Teaching Tools
  4. Backpack Supplies
  5. Books
  6. Games
  7. Furniture

Project Details

Applications without adequate descriptions will not be considered.

Describe the proposed project you are seeking funds to support. Include the following elements:  Proposed project, the rationale for the project, items to be purchased or expenses to incur, source of purchase (vendor or merchant), and the cost of each Item. 

What items or expenses do you plan on purchasing/incurring for project completion? Please list all items with the cost of each.
Please list the vendor or merchant that you will purchase the above items from. 

PLEASE NOTE: If a CHEER grant is awarded, the applicant will be expected to provide receipts and photos documenting the project. These photos may be used to help publicize the CHEER program. Please send photos to cheer.mnear@gmail.com.
