Managing time and your classroom

Managing time and your classroom

Get ideas for your classroom at NEA’s new School Me. The site, http://neatoday.org/school-me/, offers tips, tricks, and guidance for new educators, but there is something there for all educators. Access content several ways—blog posts, podcasts, videos, and webinars.

MNEA’s Start Smart publication provides support for new teachers. Quickly find what you need now on a variety of topics. Ask local MNEA leaders for a printed copy, or find it at Classroom & Professional Resources.

“I Can Do It” is a workshop designed for teachers in their first year or two of teaching and those who want to brush up on classroom management. This workshop is MNEA’s Beginning Teacher Assistance program, offered in partnership with Maryville University. It fulfills one requirement for upgrading the initial teaching certificate.

Grant opportunities

The NEA Foundation provides resources to help educators pursue grants. Use the Writing Tutorial found at www.NEAFoundation.org to help you draft an effective grant proposal. Explore grant opportunities from other organizations as well as projects of past NEA Foundation grant recipients.

Learning and Leadership Grants enable individual educators or groups of educators to develop their professional practice to improve student learning. Student Success Grants fund projects that help students think critically and solve problems. Both grant programs offer $2,000 and $5,000 grants.

Through its Humanitarian Outreach Project for Education Fund, Missouri NEA assists students and schools in financial need.

Thanks to funding from Reliant Financial Services, MNEA members who are probationary teachers or education support professionals can receive a $500 tuition grant toward the cost of a three-hour graduate course.

Teacher evaluation

Teacher evaluations

Get help writing your professional growth plan on a teaching standards indicator. MNEA compiled Marzano, Lemov, and Hattie strategies, which align with individual indicators, into a single downloadable document. Open the one for a teaching standards indicator in your professional growth plan.

Use MNEA’s Observation Log to record your own brief notes after an observation by your evaluator, however brief. These notes are valuable during follow-up discussions, especially if a summative conversation or document references that observation.

Log in to Members Only and find the documents under Classroom & Professional Resources.

Teacher Leadership Foundational Competencies - Teacher leaders must constantly grow in their ability to engage effectively with diverse people and groups who differ from them culturally. They seek to understand the culture and its predominant impact on individuals and groups of people, yet also understand how the dominant culture can privilege or oppress individuals and groups of people. Finally, teacher leaders must develop the skills to challenge inequities and work with culturally diverse groups to create equitable learning environments for all students. Learn more >
